Every year The Salvation Army helps thousands of people in Cape County. In order to meet those needs The Salvation Army raises its yearly budget during Christmas time with their annual Christmas Campaign. The campaign this year started off with a bang thanks to a generous donation of $7,500 from First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau. “Our Christmas goal is $300,000 this year, so this $7500 is a great way to start off the season,” Lt. Matt DeGonia stated “And it will go a long way to help further The Salvation Army’s mission to meet human needs in Jesus name. It is a great encouragement to me personally to know that other churches in the area such as First Presbyterian are willing to stand up with us to continue to show Jesus love to those in our community.” Lt. Matt added.
The red kettles will start to appear around Cape Girardeau and Jackson on Friday, November 17th. They will be manned by a small army of bell ringers made up of both paid workers and volunteers. This year The Salvation Army will be manning locations at West Park Mall, JCPenny’s, Hobby Lobby, Schnucks, Country Mart, Buchheit and Save-A-Lot before Thanksgiving. Adding all Walmart’s, Sam’s, Sears, Macy’s and Walgreens after the Thanksgiving holiday.
“We appreciate all of our local business that allow us to ring in front of their stores this season,” says Lt. Matt “Without them we couldn’t do what we do in the community.”
