I just began serving as Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in December of 2017. Though I am still learning about the church and the community of Cape Girardeau, I am grateful for the warm welcome I have received.
One of the things that originally attracted me to this church was their focus on the Greatest Commandments as a vision for ministry: “To love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. And to love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:37-39) These are the words that I use at the close of every worship service to remind us of our primary purpose as individual followers of Jesus and as the Body of Christ, the church.
For me, this is the bottom line, where the rubber meets the road on our journey of faith. The message never gets old, and we never fully accomplish the goal. But we keep working at it and trying to find new ways to live out our love of God and neighbor and self in a changing and troubled world.
At First Presbyterian, we welcome ALL PEOPLE. We invite you to COME IN to worship, study, and fellowship with us. We pray that the love you find inside our walls will draw you nearer to God. We hope to inspire and equip each person to GO OUT, and to let God’s love overflow from us to others.
